While Perpetual Change is most commonly known as a 80s/90s cover band, those in the know also know that the band also spent time writing and recording a CD's-worth of music in the late 80s and early 90s. They even travelled to the west coast, working hard to bring their work to the attention of people in "the business". Below is a sampling of that work; please feel free to listen, download, and enjoy.

These songs, while perhaps not greatest material, serve to capture some great memories that started in a basement in Shawnee, Kansas and took us from playing at Hocker Grove Middle School to expanding all over the Midwest and ultimately San Francisco and LA trying to get "the Big Break". A lot of great memories came from that Journey...we learned a lot about songwriting, chemistry, business, but mostly friendship.
The songs were recorded from 1987 to 1995...some of the actual songs were written well before these recordings. Recording locations are noted with each song along with the players that correspond with the key below.
The Original Line Up:
A: Mike Bozzoli (writer, vocals ,Bass, ) Andrew Moore (Drums), Jim Parker (Guitar), Bill Latas (Guitar), Trey DeBose (Sax), Kieth Bohn(Keys)
Additional Incarnations of the Band:
» B: Bozzoli, Moore, Latas, DeBose, Bohn
» C: Bozzoli, Moore, John Michaels (Guitars)

| C: 1993: recorded in Kansas City (Sound Recorders) We shot a video for this song and used it to pitch the band to record labels. Andrew and I headed out to LA and knocked on doors playing the demo and mis-representing ourselves as the bands "agents" to book meetings. This song almost got us there... | |
| 2. In Your Eyes | Download MP3 Lyrics |
| B: (written 1987/recorded and released as the B-side to Heartbeat Away single) Andrew's Mom was passing through the basement the first run through when it was written and tape was rolling...somewhere I still have the version where you can hear her say "I love that song" as she was heading upstairs) re-recorded in 1989 in San Francisco with Journey Producer Wally Buck and Ross Valory from Journey on Bass) | |
| 3. Nobody | Download MP3 Lyrics |
| E: 1994 Recorded in PC Studios Shawnee,KS..Joe Hart on Guitar | |
| 4. Looking for An Answer | Download MP3 Lyrics |
| D: 1990: recorded somewhere on Troost in KC-This and Lonely Street came from the same session. Poetic as it captured that state of the band at this point...lost and searching. We liked the guitar riff and built the song from there. The time changes just broke the arrangement up and made it more interesting. | |
| 5. Mary's Song | Download MP3 Lyrics |
| E: 1995: I wrote this on the beach in Manzanita, Oregon. It's about a lot of different things..another song about searching and allusions to divinity like Prayer for Rain and All This Time. I played the guitars and Bill Latas came in and did a great solo..it was a fun reunion. The song is kind of "half baked" though. | |
| 6. All This Time | Download MP3 Lyrics |
| C: 1993: recorded in KC: another song that came from a riff and a groove: kind of marries influences from INXS/U2/ John Mellencamp/ lyrics came from watching crowds at clubs and all the different mixes of people and emotions/ the song is about the "undercurrent" of temptation in our society and kind of came from delineating the temporary from the eternal curiosity in people. | |
| 7. Restless | Download MP3 Lyrics |
| E: 1994: recorded in Shawnee,KS: This was written in Lawrence,KS: Jim Parker, from the original line-up, came back to play the acoustic guitar part on this one…the main hook of the song. Coincidentally, he loaned me the guitar while we were at KU on the condition that I use it to write songs and he never got it back. I guess that means he’s a great friend or he’ll never loan me anything again or both. This song is too Pop oriented and belongs in the movie "Sixteen Candles"—it’s that cheesy . On the positive side, another friend, Mike Plas, played all the lead guitar lines and really added a lot to the feel of the song. | |
| 8. Tearing Me Down | Download MP3 Lyrics |
| B : 1989: Recorded in San Francisco: Produced by "Journey" producer Wally Buck. We stayed in the same Hotel as the Doobie Brothers while we on this trip. Recorded at Fantasy Studios at the same place Journey recorded their "Escape" album. Creedence Clearwater Revival also recorded in this same room. | |
| 9. Heart to Heart | Download MP3 Lyrics |
| B: 1988: Recorded in Olathe,KS at the Sound Factory. Great sounding studio. This song was actually inspired by the Police – "Every Breath You Take" outro . A song about discovering the truth about someone. Gary West from Shooting Star sings back-ups on the Bridge section. This song was actually pitched in Nashville as a country song a few years later. | |
| 10. It's Allright | Download MP3 Lyrics |
| B: 1989: Recorded in San Francisco: Fantasy Studios | |
| 11. Aimee | Download MP3 Lyrics |
| B :1989 : Recorded in San Francisco: Fantasy Studios..twangy vocals | |
| 12. Lonely Street | Download MP3 Lyrics |
| D: 1990: Recorded in Kansas City somewhere off of Troost. Actually written years before that in 1988..this was about the third version of the song. It used to be sax heavy but this incarnation was the only one that’s still around | |
| 13. Ham | Download MP3 Lyrics |
| This is a really stupid inside joke that somehow made it onto one of the tracks..it's Andrew doing the "hamming" here. | |
| 14. Just a Heartbeat Away (KY102 Radio Broadcast - 1987) |
Download MP3 Lyrics |
| A: Recorded March 7,1987 at Studio West in Olathe, KS..my first song ever, first studio experience, first record and ultimately first song to get on the radio in Kansas City. This cut is actually from the radio broadcast on KY-102 in KC. We sent the DJ a dozen roses for pimping the band like she did. The band was actually on the road out of town on a gig and didn’t get to actually hear the broadcast. We had all of our high school friends call in..both of them. We sold 1,000 records in Village records in Shawnee. Great memories. | |
